The Competition

MEET…The Competition!

Who are the members of The Competition?

St. John Artists Presents - The CompetitionThe Competition rise to the occasion, whether it is your corporate event, party or club date.  The Competition is an all-inclusive group of some of the most celebrated musicians in the industry.  They have one of the largest production shows in the Midwest, unlike any you have seen or will ever see again.

With music that spans the ages, from the 50's through the New Millenium, you are sure to find something you like in everything they do, no matter what your age.  A group that is willing to stretch the limits of your imagination, all to provide you with an enjoyable entertainment experience.  When it comes to entertainment, the Competition will provide all you need to entertain everyone, from young to old.

LITTLE VITO
What makes a legend?  For the last 30 years, Little Vito was in two of Madison's most prominent bands:  Punch during the 70's and Little Vito & The Torpedoes throughout the 80's and 90's.  Vito puts his heart and soul into his drumming.  Vito continues the legend with THE COMPETITION.  "I'm energetic and I'm good at surrounding myself with the very BEST musicians!"
CRAIG SCOTT
After playing in a band called the "Car Tunes", Craig Scott also became a member of the "Torpedoes."  Craig is a truly gifted guitarist and one of the lead vocalists.  With a great sense of humor, he has an incredible talent for reading an audience and knowing what mood the band should be creating.  These skills combine to make him a terrific front man and an audience favorite.  "All I ever wanted to do was entertain people.  The Competition is the BEST group of people I have ever worked with to accomplish that."
TIM KRAUSE
The last former "Torpedo" is Tim Krause.  Music fans will also remember him with "Fat Cat".  Tim, playing horns and keys, turns in virtuoso performances every night.  No stage can contain his vibrant personality.  He is an accomplished musician on multiple instruments and he has performed for audiences around the world.  "I like to be among the audience when I play.  That's where the fun is."
MIKE HAYS
At 23 years old, Mike has already become a very desirable stage presence.  His outstanding musicianship has led to repeat invitations to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York and opportunities to be a member of significant Madison-area rock bands.  Now thriving with The Competition, Mike's depth and talent at keyboards, saxophone, and guitars bring an expansive musical foundation as well as a link to the younger audience.   "I started doing this for fun.  I soon learned it's what I am."
JOANNA LEA
From Broadway musicals to starring roles in Nashville and Opryland USA to performances as a member of "The Kids from Wisconsin" Joanna has received some of the industry's highest accolades.  You will be astounded by her vocal talents; multi-character performance's and engaging smile.  "The opportunity to merge my professional goals with a quality musical organization was something I couldn't pass up.  The Competition was a blessing.  I have the backing, the support and the incredible talent to fulfill my dreams."
MIKE WEILAND
Behind every great performance is a fine tuned production team. The people who make the show run smoothly. That's where Mike Weiland comes into play as the groups Audio Engineer.  Mike has toured with some of the foremost entertainment acts since the early 70's, working both Audio and Lighting production. He has toured extensively in the U.S. and Europe with national and regional performers. His resume is quite extensive and includes Cheap Trick, U2(Zoo TV Tour), Bryan Adams, Molly Hatchet, Wayne Newton, the Gin Blossoms and Bad Boy to name just a few.  He has also been a system technician for Sound and Lighting production companies such as: Turn of the Century, Rad Audio, Badger Audio, Sticha Brothers Sound and Show Co Sound Company.  Last year, while on hiatus from one touring production after another, he had the opportunity to connect with Little Vito, who at the time was looking for an audio engineer and production manager. He's been an extensive player, turning the Competition into a well oiled machine and a great group to have perform for your event. He has been glad to call the Competition home for the past year and hopefully, well into the future.  When you see the "Competition" live, glance over to the soundboard, and there will be Mike. He has surrounded himself with some of the most up-to-date and top of the line(this means really expensive) gear. He's as much a part of the show as the members on the stage! His sound production separates the "Competition" from everyone else.
LIGHTING
Our Lighting Director has a lighting production for you. When you come to one of the Competition's" shows, don't forget your sunglasses!  The lighting team has been designing productions for almost twenty years and have honed their talents with several national-touring acts.  They will astound most people with the production they puts on. The whole mind set is to command attention to the stage and that's just where you'll look.  It takes a great talent to create the mood and energy of a song with lights, and that's exactly what they do. They a re master's at casting a spell and pulling the audience in. The difference is, the web they weave is with lighting, instead of musical instruments.
